Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
Genuine question. It's not our money it actually has little bearing on their success. To be honest it's as much an indicator of fame than anything else.

I keep seeing things like we should only buy him if he's four million but no way at 8 million.

I'm genuinely intrigued by this phenomenon.

Surely we should simply ask will he improve the team or the squad and leave it to whoever to decide whether we can afford the fee, the wages etc.

I would imagine only because they feel that it would hinder our spending ability on other players.

What a bizarre question.

The we receive, the more we spend. Common sense, surely?

The more we receive the older the loan player we can get.

Just me then. I can't see any correlation myself - maybe from a Championship Manager perspective but I really can't see that signing Snodgrass for 4 million rather than 8 million is actually going to make the slightest difference to the make up of the team.

I agree, but some will be hung up on our budget, even though they have zero clue how much our budget is......that, is the way of WHO.

I am genuinely intrigued by why you would question this. As a fan you should be interested in everything to do with the club - its financial well-being and the good sense or otherwise of all its dealings in the transfer market are a pretty essential part of what goes on at the club.

Can't lie, I can't really couldn't give a shit myself other than when it comes from situations like Payet, where I like us holding out just to annoy him.

I mean I'd think it odd spending a silly amount on a player who I considered average, but at the same time I wouldn't give a shit as it's just what football has become nowadays.

With Payet I care because I don't want to see him end up at another English club, and we can reduce that chance or at worst make a load of money, by hardballing over transfer terms. Otherwise, I don't care unless we pay a lot of money or someone shit, or pick up a real bargain.

WAGES.

Because there are FFP rules on how much we can spend on wages, season-per-season.

Paying Payet to do nothing - just to pluck an example from thin air, you understand - means we have less to spend on others' salaries.

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
you said : 'decide whether we can afford the fee, the wages'

If we keep underselling our players eventually we wont have that money to buy someone else.
so getting the most for a player is important as it dictates whom we can bring in later down the line .

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
I think we overspent on the players we brought in this Summer - obviously, not in the same way Leeds did.

They bought players they couldn't afford, we bought players we could afford, but who were overpriced and not very good (or, just possibly, in the case of Ayew and Feghouli, are taking an age to show how good they are).

It is a good question. You have to understand that the majority of morons on here are determined to dig out the owners whatever they do. However, they are apparently oblivious to the contradiction.

On one hand they owners don’t spend money on players, on the other, they spend too much.

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
Well the owners don't exactly always cover themselves in glory with this, do they?

Derisory offers for Defoe and Snodgrass, then have the cheek to sneer at OM when they try to get Payet for less than what they consider he is worth. Which still amounts to double what they paid for him.

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
Nicely summarised takashi miike, it would be a disaster to spend 50m on a championship quality player like snodgrass, therefore cost control is important
